It is traditional to send flowers but another thing that is also common is to take over a meal for the family. Make sure it is something easy to serve and clean up so they won't have alot of work to do to prepare. Also make sure you know of any allergies in advance an take those into consideration. Another thing would be a card or not letting them you know you care.

Another idea is to send a food basket of some kind to the family at the funeral home. That is very common because the immediate family members spend alot of time there without much of a chance to eat. Baskets from bakeries and such are very common.

Unique art gift is the best present. There is a web site –photoartomation.com ( http://www.photoartomation.com ), they convert a digital photos into paintings of different art styles and print them on canvas. My friend sent them a picture and they turned it into beautiful piece of art. I saw it and it really looks good.
