My boyfriend's mother is coming to visit him, and I will be meeting her for the first time. Should I get her anything? If so, any ideas on what to get? I was thinking maybe flowers. I would most likely get her a gift if I was visiting her where she lives, but since she is coming here, I don't know what to do.

You don't need to buy her a gift. Make up her room really nice, clean everything, bake her a cake or cookies.

Maybe you could get the two of them a gift for some Mother and son time like tickets to something. She'd love you for that.

Flowers are always nice, maybe a bottle of wine if she drinks. You could also get her an assortment of bath items, like from bath and body works, so that she has something that smells nice while she is in town...she may have left her good stuff at home.

If it's not a holiday of some sort then don't over due it. you want to come off as a sweetie without trying. My suggestion: Get her a souvenir that she can take back home. What is something that's in your city that isn't in her city? That's a nice touch. Also, take her to lunch or something without your boy. That way you get her one on one. That's better than a gift and more rewarding for you as well. Have fun...

Flowers would be wonderful. Make sure she isn't allergic to anything though!

I would say have a dinner table ready for her with fresh flowers on the table. You don't need to give her flowers because she will probably stay here for couple of days and what would she do with the flowers. Plus, she is the one who has to give you a gift not you to her. You can buy something small when she returns back to her place, like a souvenir, but you don't have to.

I don't think I would get her a gift off the bat. You are right, if you were going there then it would be appropriate. I think a better alternative might be to get to know her and look for a clue in something that she says during her visit (such as "I just broke my carrot peeler and I keep forgetting to buy a new one) or something silly like that. Then right after she leaves and goes back to where she is from, go buy her a real nice one and send it to her with a real sweet note telling her how much you enjoyed her visit and getting to know her. That will make her realize what a thoughtful girl you are and how her son better hang on to you. good luck.

always want to get a good note from the mother in law! so you might want to get her something she really likes! so find out from your boyfriend whats her sweet spot and get ideas from her (and NO flowers) unless you know what she likes like a specific flower good luck! (+[_]:Smile
