Diapers, but not newborns.....babies don't stay in them long. My kids spent the most time in size 2 and 3.

my friend brought me a disposable camera which was a good idea I thought because we didn't have any.... When we got the pics developed there were some sayings at the bottom of the picture like "it's a girl!" or something like that. I think she got it in the gift shop. It was a good idea... just tell them about the sayings at the bottom so you can position it right.

I would do a couple of gift cards for $25 each to 2 different restuarants in their area. That way, if they don't feel like cooking, call something in and go pick it up. I would have liked that!!!Also, give them a Mom/Dad package - bottle of wine, chocolates, massage gift certs, etc to use after recovery period is over for some alone time.

If they don't already have a carseat that is a must for new parents. A diaper bag loaded with diapers is also something they are going to need.

Honestly, a nice meal for both parents. Or perhaps coupons for naps for them to take while you watch the baby. Maybe also an offer to come over and help clean/pick up - those were the things that meant so much to me when I had my son. Just the extra support and help.

A fruit-and-cheese plate and a bottle of wine. I assure you they've not been eating well since she went into labour...

Instead of buying something, make your own "coupon" good for one free house cleaning. That is something I would have appreciated because when mom is in the hospital it's just dad at home, nothing gets done. I was so overwhelmed by what I saw when I walked in the door I wanted to cry.

one thing that couple will always need more of is diapers. you can seriously never have to many diapers. They are probably overloaded with baby clothes but if you want to get them clothes shoot for an older age range, 3-6months instead of newborn (ive still got tags on some of my newborn clothes, but come 6 months i was out!) Also, couples with new babies dont get the chance to make very good meals, so turning that 50 bucks into a certificate at a resturaunt or take out place would be really nice as well.

You could get a really nice Baby Book, where the Parents can keep a record of their child's development.
