The cat is 6 months old and is a boy that has been fixed and declawed. He was a gift for my mother. He actually did come out for a few minutes and played with me but after that he went back into hiding. He hasnt come out in almost 24 hours. We've tried dangling his toys in front of him to coax him out but he just edges his way towards it then when you try and get close he moves back into hiding.

He's scared. When he's more comfortable with his new surroundings he'll come out. Just be patient.

Put food out close to where you can see your cat and talk to your cat so it gets used to your voice and give it 7 more days to get used to the place.

Cats like small dark places. Give him time and space. He will come out I promise. I needs to get use to the new place. You may keep him in one room until he gets use to it. Then gradually introduce him to new rooms and let him explore at his own pace.

It will take him a few days to start adjusting to his new home. Don't feed him where he is currently hiding -- just put the food & water where you want his feeding station to be. Also set the cat box away from the hiding spot too. Being a kitten of 6 months, his curiousity will take over and he will start exploring soon enough. Once he is confident about being home with you, he will be out and about in your home with no problems.

Don't let this worry you. Your cat is scared and will come out when he feels safe. When he realizes that you are his friend, he'll wander out.It may take weeks, so even though you are anxious to play with your new kitty, he's very insecure and needs time to adjust.Just put out food and water and keep his litter box clean and eventually he'll warm up to you. Each cat is different, some are very outgoing and want to be with you every single minute and some prefer to hang out by themselves. And this can change as they mature.I had a cat that loved to play as a kitten, then around 2 years old decided to only show himself during mealtime, and then around 10, became a lap kitty and wanted to be touching us at all times.

As mentioned by others, he is just scared. Good that he came out already and played a bit though. When I got my 1st cat from the Humane Society they said that he might stay under the bed for a week or more--I assume that he would sneak out to eat.Well to my surprise, he barely even looked under the bed and was right back out and exploring the rest of his new house...like he just checked to make sure that it was there (under the bed).I have another cat that I got as a kitten and she is now a year and a hald and still hides under the bed alomst all the time. She comes out at night and wants affection, I wake up and pet her and sometimes she comes under the covers and cuddles up with me, but her usual spot is under the bed.You just have to let them have their space and let them come to you when they feel comfortable and safe. And remember that they all have their own personalities and so even after a while he may prefer to hang out under the bed.We just move again and now Samantha Jones (my shy cat) has taken to coming out and getting up on the kitchen counter and staying in a nook by the microwave--she is easy to miss b/c she is all black...but she seems content, so I am content that she is more of a loner than my other kitties.

At this point he's still afraid...it takes a while for cats to adjust, they do not like change. Which is a good thing to know as a new cat owner. However, if he stays hidden for days, you might consider getting him a friend. Its not unusual for kittens to be so distraught when moving to a new home, the only thing that will comfort them is the presence of another kitten. Especially if he came from a home with other cats an went to a home where he's an only cat. I know a couple of people who've became a 2-cat family for this reason.Good Luck!

well he been in two homes, got settled in one, now moved into yours, confusing him, he is thinking who loves me!, the older woman or you. call him, put treats down for him to find, like a treasure hunt, get a long stick, put a sponge on one end and stroke him so he gets the feel of being touched, speak softly, and with luck he'll come out, it could take two weeks or more but keep trying, and you will have a loving cat to cuddle up to on cold nights, someone who will listen to your troubles worries, with a silent look, and a purr hope i have helped, have fun all of you.love to pussy from my dog tinyxxx.

Don't worry, this is a natural reaction with all cats to a new place. My best advice is to know where hides, and lay yourself down on his level so he doesn't feel so intimidated, talk to him sweetly and offer him toys to play with and find him treats he might like, but don't use the treats to lure him to you, it'll cause him to only associate you with food. In other words, cater to him for a little while and he'll come around. Pretty soon you'll have a very loving cat on your hands. Hope this helps.

my oldest cat was almost a year old when i got him, he came from an abusive home and was very scared of everythingfor months, you would never had guessed that i even had a cat, he never came out of hiding unless no one was home or it was the middle of the night and wewere all asleepgradually, he started coming out a little bit at a time and as long as we ignored him, like he wasnt even there, then he would stay with us for awhile, kind of like he was checking us out, to see if he could trust us.eventually he came to us on his own, let us pet him and gradually build a relationship with him. he needed to learn that he could trust us to be kind to him. he is now 18 years old, healthy, happy and king of the whole house!give your kitten time, a new home and family is a really big change for him and you dont really know what his life has been like for the last 6 months. just be patient and loving and he will soon grow to love and trust you. its really good that he already came out and played with you for a bit, it means he will adjust alot faster than my cat did.good luck to you
