definitely NOT on new years at midnightyour January anniversary would be nice (over a late evening dinner where it's quiet)Lots of people present engagement rings on valentines day (and that's ok too).I wouldn't like two gifts in one...make the ring special. What's the reason for the push for a ring? are you both college grads, are you both over 21, do you have savings? do you both own your own cars and are employed? If not then consider this: each child will cost you $160,000 and they do come quickly after marriage (usually). Are you prepared for that and a house mortgage too?

Ok...well let me just say that i know you are a guy and most guys are known for forgetting anniversaries and yes even the date you get engaged is an anniversary to a woman...i know its weird but its true. So to make it easier to remember for you i would do it on new years. This is something you will always celebrate and you wont have to share it with family. This should be something you have for you two not you and your families. Plus...new year, new chapter in your lives... Good luck

I like scenario #1 and scenario #31 is good b/c all of her family will be around and it is just a happy time of year. 2-not special. so many people do this3-I really like this one. Make it even more special by taking her to the spot where you first met or the place you went on your first date.4-also not special. too overdone. Give her a proposal that is unique and meaningful not cookie cutter. A million other couples will get engaged on New Years and Valentines (well, Christmas too, but I like your idea). Make the day as special as she is.

I would say New Years first and then my second choice would be Christmas.

If you want her to know that you are doing what she asked you to then do it at christmas. If you want to suprise her do it on new years at midnight. I think that the one I would do is at midnight new years. Not at christmas that is what she wants you to do.
