OK, I thought I was pretty up on my registry etiquette, but this has got me cross-eyed!?

Not everyone has a Macy's or a JC Penney's in their towns. They are owned by different companies, so they wanted to provide their guests the ability to buy them the same things that they need regardless of where they live. Its actually quite common to register for multiple things if you choose several similar stores. My family is from a small town in the northeast and my husband's family is from the south...there were a lot of different stores in his area but few in my family's, so we registered for the same thing both places to accomodate our guests (who requested we do that).

This self-serving Bride and Groom are bound and determined that their guests are going to buy these gifts. Every Bride and Groom should give their guests the opportunity to select from a wide range of gifts starting with $10 but apparently this couple does not care nor are they concerned about what their guests can or cannot afford. Just give them a gift certificate to one of their registries, and then they can apply it to anything they want.True story . . A Bride selected such an expensive fine china pattern that it had to be "special ordered." Well, surprise, surprise after all the wedding gifts were opened and written down they did not receive a single piece of fine china, not even the salt and pepper shaker. Needless, to say, the Bride was furious. And this was coming from a Bride who was raised in a home that did not have any matching glassware or matching dishes her whole life.Answered by: A Certified wedding specialist / A Professional bridal consultant / A Wedding ceremony officiant

See not every place in the country has a Macy's (we only got here in Seattle within the last few years, and you have a good number of purists like myself who will always call it The Bon), and some won't have a JcPenney, so I think that the bride is trying to make sure that the registry options are available to everyone. Now granted, if there are duplicates, she'd probably return them, but take the silverware and china for instance: Maybe people get them a little bit from one place and a little bit from another. As long as it is the same pattern, it is very workable. Also if there are duplicated from various stores-say two food processors-the $150 from that can be used to go towards china, glassware, etc. I am a big fan of registries, so long as they are not included on the actual invitation, because even one "wedding" frame would be tacky to me (instead maybe offer to get some of the wedding stuff professionally framed), and the registry would be things that I would need. If there isn't something on a registry that you can give, there's really a few options to me. The first is an offering of services-say painting, lawn care, preparing dinners for after the couple return from the honeymoon, etc. The second is to give cash, because it works for anything. The third would be to give a giftcard to a home improvement store because it can be used for stuff like rakes and paintbrushes and new faucets, but it could also be used to get some plants and such. Another one would be a giftcard to a grocery store in the area (if they do one) or a restaurant giftcard.

I bet they did this so that if a guest lives in a city that has a JCPenney, but not a Macy's they could still get them the gift they wanted. Other than that, I can't see why they would do this. And even then, this is gonna be such a pain for them to deal with. Because unless they really want two of everything, they are gonna have to do a lot of return & exchange! You're right; that's weird!
