my co-workers asked me to plan on a luncheon baby shower for our pregnant officemate. there's only about 9 of us (including the mom-to-be) and i plan to do the decors and some dessert.what's the best way to do it? in terms of food and beverages? i know that the mom-to-be came from a huge family (from both sides) and she will have grand baby showers. what do you think are the best gifts we can give?

You should find out what kind of dessert she likes, and make enough for nine. No one likes to eat a dessert that they don't actually enjoy at their own party. This is still an office party, so don't slave over the food too much. For food and beverages, I would order an assortment of sandwiches or whatever you please from a local place, pick up a nice sparkling juice or something, and make only the dessert yourself. It shows you care without saying "Am I the godmother?"She could already be registered, and as her coworkers you could knock off some of the cheaper items on the list. If she's not, you might want to get her a group gift to cut down on cost.

Collect an equal amount from each office worker say $15. and apply $5.00 from each to the food and the other towards a group gift like a car seat, photo session etc and go to a Costco get a plain cheese cake, can or jar of say strawberries and a fruit punch Non Alcoholic and presto done and all can have a good quick time at this function and no one left out or fingers poked at cause of her or his gift. Treated all equal and no room for gossip at this function. Get the drift?????????!!

You've already gotten good advice.... if you really want to do the dessert yourself I guess the cupcakes or some brownies would be a good & easy idea. If not, just buy a pie and that should do it. As for food, I liked the idea of small sandwiches and some soda, period. As for gifts, I don't know what kind of gifts you usually give out at showers in your country, but it doesn't have to be anything big, just something she will use a lot...... as a new mom you can NEVER have enough diapers and wipes!!! She will most probably get tons of clothes and toys from her big family, as well as bigger gifts (a stroller, a car seat) so even small things which will be useful for her will make for a good gift. If buying clothes for the baby, just make sure to buy bigger sizes -- moms really appreciate that. They get a lot of stuff for the newborn, which BTW will be used only once or twice because they grow up so quickly.... but I have this friend who was also my coworker who told me that her baby -- who is now 2 yrs old -- just recently started wearing the pajamas I gave her on her shower. As babies grow up they need more clothes and you have less chances to get them as gifts (only on their Bday), so I think for her it was better to have something that her baby could use later on and not only once during her first days/weeks.
