I'm invited to a baby shower (the baby is a girl) and the mother didn't register anywhere. I don't have children so I don't really know what to buy her. She has a 3 yr old boy. What do you think she would need? She has car seats, high chair, etc. HELP!Thank you all very much for the great ideas! I was truly clueless. Not anymore!

I have a 3-year-old daughter and will be having a baby shower since this one is a boy. I have all the important stuff but to me, the most awesome gift would be diapers, wipes, and a couple of new blankets (especially since the one's I have are the wrong colors for a boy). Clothes, receiving blankets, burp cloths, sheets, etc. are always nice.

gift cards are great, kinda immpersonal but they can be used for her to get anything she still needs after the shower. or you can do something that has the babies name engraved or sewn onto it...like a diaper bag or blanket

One thing I appreciated as a baby gift for my little girl is jackets/coats. It's something you don't think about until it's needed and great to already have. Just plan to buy the size for how big they'll be in the season they will be wearing it.

my mother and i always give a set of red towels. Children eventually will grow up and get hurt a time or two. Skinned knees can be a problem for some children and a lot of kids freak at the sight of blood. Red towels disguize the sight and don't stain. When I was a kid adn needed a towel to wash up a cut I knew to go for the red towels.

Clothes are always a great gift. Also products for the mom like from www.Earthmamaangelbaby.com are awesome. They have great little gift baskets/bags. My favorite presents were the clothes and books. Since she already has a son she might be stocked up on books.

You can't go wrong with diapers and wipes, or a gift card. She will probably be getting tons of outfits so I'd steer clear of clothes. Also, I received 6 diaper bags, and tons of plush blankets, so I'd recommend staying away from those also! Good luck!

I give a hand made afghan to everybody who has a baby, but if you have no clue, a gift card at Target is a good idea. Don't know about other store giftcards (many don't give you full value).

Well gift cards are always good but some things that I never thought I would use but LOVED included:Baby hooded towelsBurb clothsBottle warmer (good for formula or refriderated breastmilk)Baby hangersDiapers are a good thing but a lot of parents will only use one specific kind so if you are going for those, you should probably ask the mom. Also, some babies are allergic or sensitve to types.

Ask her what she needs. Or, you can buy some clothes. Get them in a larger size (new moms get tons of newborn clothes) and make sure they are comfy clothes. I never bought new outfits for my kids, but the shower gifts of nice, cute outfits were great to have for going to church. Since she has a toddler as well, she may have a hard time getting chores done and cooking. You could make a couple of casseroles and freeze them and give her coupons for chores that you will do, or get her a gift certificate to a cleaning service. I did not have a shower for my second, but when friends insisted on getting me gifts, I asked if they would be willing to make me a dinner or come over and do laundry and tidy up.

Avoid buying clothes! I had a son in October, and I got TONS of outfits for him, and there were a lot of them he never even got to wear. While we are at home, all he wears are the zippered sleep n play jammies, anyway. They outgrow clothes so quickly, and I am sure your friend will get a lot of clothes. One of the BEST gifts I got was a Bjorn baby carrier (it harnesses around you and the baby rides in the front), or a tub for bathing newborns with a little hammock that can be removed when the baby gets older. You could buy the little tub and put baby body wash, lotion, powder, etc, in it. Just a couple of ideas that I know I really liked as a mommy!
