The Bible says not to decorate trees - that it's Pagan. The whole holiday is Pagan and originally had nothing to do with Christianity, just like Easter.

Christmas is the Christian "hi-jacking" of a previously celebrated pagan holiday. Saturnalia and/or Yule were Winter solstice holidays. When Christianity became prominent, the Pagan meanings were replaced with Christian meanings. The original holiday, the day when days start to grow longer, was the birth of the sun. Nobody wants their holidays taken away, so it has become the birth of the SON.Dionysus was born on Dec 25 to a virgin human mother and a God for a father way before Jesus was born. This is where associated traditions (the lighting of evergreens) come from as well. This answer often gets a lot of thumbs down, but it is truth. Look it up.

My beliefs are...Christmas is about celebrating Christs birth. He was born, thats what we are celebrating, therefor he was a part of it. I dont know about you, but I dont kneel when Im putting gifts under the tree, Im usually standing and then I bend over, so no we arent worshipping the tree in any way. lol Giving gifts is symbolic to the gifts the wisemen brought baby Jesus.

Because Christmas is a Pagan holiday.Which is especially ironic, considering how many Christians whine about "The war on Christmas." Shouldn't THEY be the ones waging that war?

When the idea of Christmas was first made, we for some reason thought that time period was near Jesus of Nazzareth's date of birth; though we now know we were wrong, it was really sometime in March-May.We celebrated it because of tradition since then, though. And as for the way we celebrate it; that is just slow 'evolvement' of the holiday over time.

Jesus is the Christ.Christ is in the mass. The first Christmas was when the 3 wise men finally found Jesus in a house (a toddler). They were bringing gifts for the new born King of Israel. For they had seen His star in the sky.http://www.bethlehemstar.net

The entirety of Christianity decided that we would celebrate the birth of Jesus during the winter solstice to give Christians a celebration of their own in counter to the pagan celebrations occuring at the same time. And decorating trees has never been a part of Christ's Mass, but is only a secular tradition practiced in the Western world.

I am fairly certain that the term Christmas comes from the words Christ Mass. In the Catholic Church one goes to Mass on Christmas Day, and traditionally throughout history it was a time of Celebration.....celebrating THE BIRTH OF THE SAVIOR. Various cultures added their idiosyncratic traditions to the general TRADITION OF CHRISTMAS, so to speak. Germans, Dutch, French, English....and so, in America Christmas appears to be a melting pot of traditions, and true it is....the soup is so thick......you can't see Jesus anymore. .........PS......added note.....our materialistic capitalistic consumeristic sell sell sell society certainly did create a strange kind of Santa Claus, too.....who pretty much took the thing over......what does that tell you?
