We are less than 5 mi from three family members. Should we (the proud owners of our first home) expect some/any acknowledgement? Is it wrong to expect in-laws to acknowledge the purchase of first home and be shocked when they blamed their failing on 'us' for not sending a formal invitation?

When I know for sure they have moved in, I wouldn't expect an invitation, I'd go over( if it was a family member I liked, lol) I'd take a small appliance, like a coffee maker or toaster, as a gift, if I was sure they didn't have one, or I'd just bring some food over( like a pizza or some chinese food)

Usually, you would be expected to throw a "house-warming party" and invite everyone to the "roof-wetting".Then it would be appropriate for everyone to bring a gift, flowers, cards to welcome you on the acquisition of your new home.

Most people will give you a week or two to settle in before they drop in with a housewarming gift. Ive never heard of new home owners having to send out invitaions though.

Let me get this straight. You think the family should bring you a gift because you bought a home? Yes, your attitude is wrong. They do not owe you a gift just because you bought a home.
