I know she's just a puppy, but we have to do something to stop this! It's hard to even show her any affection because as soon as she gets excited she wets everywhere! If you say her name too sweetly, she pees! It's getting to the point where we just ignore her completely inside the house, and only pet her when she is outside because we don't know what else to do! I am about five seconds away from buying diapers (an exaggeration, I know). We love her, she was a Christmas gift, but we are frazzled! PLEASE HELP!

I am a professional dog trainer and this would be what i call a happy piddler !! Many dogs have this problem and ive seen it so many times before... It can sometimes be an excitable pee or a submissive pee there is not a whole lot you can do at least most vets wont do a thing until the dog is a yr old if by then she is still doing this happy peeing than they usually prescribe them on a medication. Just dont worry it is not uncommon for your pup to have this they usually grow out of this problem behavior! She also may just have a very weak bladder !

Wait until the puppy isn't excited to give it affection. Don't give up on him!! He's just really overly excited. You are giving to much attention to an overly excited dog. Just don't look at the dog until he calms down and then give the attention.

I have a six month old dachsie and he does this- he also has a tendency to pee all over strangers (i.e. people he is not that familair with) feet if they pet him or talk to him nicely. An approach my boyfriend and I have tried with our dach is too work him up outside before we let him in the house and let him get all the pee out. This seems to work ok. I have also read that you should be very calm when you approach the dog and talk to them normally (without a pitch of excitement in your voice). Let the dog calm down outside before you bring it indoors and once it is inside treat it with "kind aloofness"- I.e. be nice to it, but don't over excite the pup.

Def. don't show her any attention at all till her excitement level is nonexistent. Bend down to her level and without getting her all worked up again by using "that" voice, pet her. It won't be immediate, but it will work. I've had several submissive pee-ers. If you've been gone and come home, don't acknowledge her till she's stopped her happy dance and jumping around. Then bend down again to pet. Mine usually outgrew it by 6 to 8 months, so hold off a little longer on the diapers!
