I am going to a wedding in June with my boyfriend. This is a woman who works with me, and her son is friends with mine. I am struggling financially and don't know what to get her, and if money how much is appropriate?

if you have a marshalls, tj maxx or ross near you...go to the housewares dpt of the store. look for a picture frame. they have really nice ones and they are super inexpensive. a frame is the best "not sure what gift to give" gift bcse newly weds will have oodles of pictures that they will want displayed at home or work

If you feel that your monetary gift would not really be enough, then I would do an actual gift. For people you don't know very well, the following are always safe gift ideas:Picture frameCrystal vase or serving tray(look at Tuesday morning or TJ Maxx for great deals)Set of margarita or martini glassesSet of white bath towelsYou can't go wrong with these & if you look around, you can find some nice ones at great prices! If they are registered, consider buying a gift card to that store. Even if it is not a large amount, they will appreciate it, b/c then they can add it to other cards to make bigger purchases.

Most people create a gift registry which makes gift giving easy because they are sure to like it. This tends to be "cheaper" than giving cash...a $20 gift seems nicer than a $20 bill...at least in my opinion. But with cash, give what you can afford but do consider the type of wedding. Fancier weddings can cost up to $50 per plate for dinner. I would say that $25-50 is good.

Ask her where they are registered at, then pick a gift that you can afford. Most people will register for gifts from different price ranges.

Target and other such stores have wedding-appropriate gifts that won't break the bank, or alternatively you could go the personal route and pass around a very nice book for people to fill with sentiments, memories, and advice for the new couple. I work with metal so I made a metal-covered book, with a frame with their favorite photo of the two of them, and beadwork in their wedding colors. I passed it around the reception and they were thrilled. My friend told me it was the best gift she received, and her husband even texted me the next day to thank me and tell me how much they enjoyed it. It cost me about $10 worth of materials to make =]A nice journal would serve the same purpose.

Keep in mind that not everyone gives a gift, and nobody will be offended if you cannot afford one. Be sure to at least give a card, and I agree, a nice photo frame is a good gift.
