Because you don't really know them, a quick and simple gift you could always get is a gift card. I've seen it done many times before, and that allows for the couple to get whatever they need, considering you don't know what they already have.

Definitely either a really nice bottle of wine or an experience (though it's more expensive). As you don't know them really I would opt for the first.

I've always thought a nice gift is a good bottle of wine and two glasses. Add a note that says it is for them to enjoy on their first anniversary. One of the most thoughtful gifts we got was a voucher to a cooking class. The guest knew how much I love to cook and how much my husband enjoys eating good food. Failing that, you could just ask them. It may be that they need something in particular.

hmmm......here are a couple things I've done...and they've loved.....1. Silicone baking pan, silicone hot mitt, measuring cup, cake mix, icing, sprinkles, etc. (you can get nice sprinkles, etc. at Michaels) Silicone is awesome.....everyone loves it after they get it.....2. a nice decorative basket, used for magazines, or some type of storage, and fill it with kitchen towels.3. a nice wicker hamper, filled with abth towels, fnger towels, washcloths.....4. a decorative storage box with bubble bath. body wash, candles, nice body lotion...5. go to things remembered, get an engraved frame, or personalized blanket.....

Like others have said, restaurant vouchers are always welcome, as are spa certificates. Do they like sports? Perhaps tickets to their fave team. Or perhaps a membership to local Art Museum. Tickets to a show, or certificates to the movie theater. Have fun with it!

Is there any way that you could find out if they've created a registry at local stores?

1. Give certificate to their favorite restaurant.2. A good bottle of champagne.3. A pretty photo frame.4. Tickets to a show, play, or sporting event you know they would enjoy.5. Are they registered anywhere? If so, get something off the registry.6. Towels, sheets, or glasses. One can never have too many of these . . . and eventually, they always need to be replaced.7. Money. Write them a check . . . or get them a gift certificate to a favorite store.

Most people give gifts for the house or something, but they never get anything that symbolizes their day. I've found giving them something personalized about their day is a HUGE hit. If you have a store called "Things Remembered" near you (they are usually in a mall), they have a large selection of wedding gifts that they can inscribe their names and wedding date into. They are pretty inexpensive. If that won't work out, I'd go with cash.products: http://www.thingsremembered.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Department_10001_9951_3008_3008_?int=wed_txt&position=lnavhomestore locator:http://www.thingsremembered.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreByStateView?storeId=10001&catalogId=9951&langId=&orderId=&errorViewName=StoreLocatorErrorViewThe inscribing doesn't take long, depending on what you get, you can have it done right there immediately, or it might take a day or two.Inscribed picture frames are always cool, and they only cost like $30.
