My boyfriends best friend is getting married this weekend, and he is an usher in the wedding. They have an online gift registry @ target and bed bath and beyond. My boyfriend wants to get them something really WOW, not just expensive. He could buy the $200 14-knife block set, but its boring.Do you have any suggestions? If I dont get any other suggestions... he's going to buy thishttp://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8742621&type=product&id=1202648987521they didnt put like a flat screen tv on their registry because they knew it would be expensive and nobody would buy it... and of course.. theres jon (my bf) and he just loves to splurge and surprise. of course.. he can afford to. *rolls eyes*... lolwe all know they want the tv..... lol..... but it would just be a huge surprise..not to mention a hassle to wrap and haul along...

Stay within their registry, even if it is knives. They registered for it for a reason. And.. the general rule is.. if you can afford it.. you should buy something that would cover the cost of your meal. For example, if you think the wedding costs $90 a person, then that is about what you should spend on the present (if feasible).

Cash or Gift Cards! I registered for stuff on my registry that I really didn't need and later regretted it.

Buy them something on their registry! They won't think the knives are boring, or they wouldn't have registered for them. GIve them something you know they want, and not an expensive unwanted item that will make them uncomfortable every time they see it in their house.Tell your boyfriend to ask his mother, ask his father, ask anyone who has ever had a big wedding if they would have preferred something random or something they hoped for. The gift is not about his ego in giving something special, but about his friendship in giving something appropriate.

If you dont feel right buying the knife set then get the couple a gift card for the store(s) on their registry or give them cash instead. It may seem like you are trying to get out of buying them something or you waited until the last minute. Since they are close friends they will def. understand.

I think they would rather have the money. You are poor after you get married.

I'm getting married this August and while I'm not telling my guests my preferences, I would certainly prefer cash over anything else. I am paying about $100 a head just for the reception plus everything else and helping to pay for some of it would be a great help for us since we're just starting out. Also, everyone has their preferences. Yeah, maybe they do like that T.V, but what if there is another model # that they like even better and if they got cash they could put the money together and get the one they really want and not just one they like. I dunno, you know them best, so ultimately it's your choice. If you really want to get them that T.V. then go for it. As far as wrapping it and bringing it along to the wedding...I wouldn't suggest that. Just have it delivered to their house/apartment along with a nice note. I'm sure they'll be fine without the wrapping paper.

If he wants to go all out and knows they want a t.v. then he can order one from online and give a print out picture of the gift with a card that indicates when it will arive. That way, there is no hauling it around.
