We are having a Catholic wedding ceremony and have asked our cousins and close friends to be readers and to carry the gifts down the isle (the bread and the wine). Should we get them a gift, and if so what should we get? Also, should I get them corsages and boutonnieres as well? Thanks everyone!

Hi. I am Catholic myself and have done both of those duties in weddings. I certainly don't think it is necessary to get these people gifts...especially since they are family. If you are having a program, you can list their names in the progam. But other than that, I wouldn't worry about getting them a gift.

Yes, it is traditional to get a gift for the readers and the carriers of the host. It is generally less than that of a bridesmaid or groomsman, unless they are wearing something you picked out, in which case they should get equal gifts. Give what ever you like, gift cards to their favorite place, jewelry, engraved momentos, and have the gift age appropriate. If the ring bearer is 6 years old, Toys R Us gift card might be fantastic. Blockbuster and discount department stores where one can buy anything that one wants is great, too. Music, movies, electronics, clothes, whatever. If they are an avid reader, the local bookstore.

i think it would be nice to also get them a gift. they may not be in the wedding party, but you have invited them to be a part of your wedding. although it is not necessary & you don't have to get them anything extravagant. but maybe a frame for the ladies or a money clip for the men, w/ there names or initials engraved on it or a simple thank you for being part of our wedding. check out this website... www.personalizationmall.com - they have gifts for every occasion & will engrave them free of charge.
