Is it made out to be a big deal for the companies who sell graduation gifts? They just want your money, you know. Doesn't nearly everyone graduate from highschool? I don't see what the accomplishment is here... It sounds like a money-making acitivity ex: Valentines day.No I never bought an over-priced class ring or any of that other useless junk.Err... sorry about the spelling."activity".

Its a rite of passage. People spend 13 years in school to get that diploma so it is kind of a big deal. I'm sure companies do take advantage of it to make some money but that doesn't make it less of an accomplishment for the graduates. My brother is graduating this year and I'm incredibly proud of him, he had a lot of problems he had to over come to get here and as far as I'm concerned its a huge deal.Nearly everyone does not graduate by the way. A lot of people drop out or fail out.

Not all of them go on to college or other post-secondary schooling so it's a big deal to them. I mean it's the end of their institutionalized education and "youth". Oh and not EVERYONE makes it to graduation....

Maybe because it is the first milestone of achievement in our lives.........we work hard to graduate, and when we finally achieve it, we feel good about it.........Maybe because it is the end of childhood, and the beginning of a new life, and people want to share it with you...........I do agree that all the companies and everyone else who makes money out of graduation (by selling class rings and all that) is not really a necessity........High School is a place where we make the first friendships of our lives, the first mistakes of our lives, learn from those mistakes, and make even more..........we create some of our first memories of our lives while in school. No class ring is necessary to help us with our memories...........Graduation should be celebrated with your friends and family........even without class rings, etc., it is an achievement........

I think that you are a little mixed up here. Graduating from high school is not a holiday created or otherwise and yes, I agree, the retail industry makes some amount of money on "graduation"gifts. Yes; nearly everyone graduates but that is not the point. Your graduation class may have been several hundred, that is several hundred individual accomplishments. It is a right of passage that should be celebrated by every family. You should get the class ring and the senior key and the party. You worked for it and when you graduate from college you should get a bigger party because you worked for that. I hope you get some counseling to help you focus less on the negative and more on the positive happy points of life. I hope you recognise your own self worth. Good luck.

1. Not everyone in this world gets to go to high school. There are a lot of countries that do not provide a free high school education, and not everyone can afford it.2. In this day and age with young pregnancies, drugs and dropouts, it is a very big deal to get past all of that and succeed. A lot of people go for the GED. People do milk the occasion for profit, but that is the point of having a business. To make money. People sell what people want to buy. It's simple. That does not mean that the buyers are only restricted to these types of purchases. There are other gift ides available.
