| I was surprised to be invited to a distant relative's (I think it's my third cousin) son's graduation. I hardly ever see these people. Makes it seem like they invited me just to get another gift. I was speaking with my aunt last week and she mentioned that she had received an invitation also. She planned on attending, but was only going to give him $20. What would be an appropriate amount under these circumstances? |

| I'd say $20 is fine. Considering how distant you are. |

| Since you do not know the graduate that well, a reasonable gift is $20 |

| $20...or a card with $10. Were you also invited to the open house, where meals and refreshments will be provided or are you just invited to the graduation ceremony? If it's just the graduation it does seem like it's fishing for gifts/money. |
