CALIFORNIA LAWS on GIFT CERTIFICATES and STORE CREDIT?

OK...so in the state of CA, there are no expiration dates on gift cards / certificates. I was wondering if the same rules apply to store credit...like if I return something, and they give me a store credit slip, does that ever expire ? Is there a law for that ? I returned something over a year and a half ago, and still have the store credit slip.
