A friend of mine had a baby two days ago and someone gave her a beautiful pink silk robe and matching polka dot PJ pants. She has been wearing them around the hospital since she got out of that hospital gown. Did anyone else do this? I think this would be a great gift for an expecting mother and a GREAT idea! What do you think?

Yep! It's a great idea for a baby gift. Especially with some bath gel for Mama. Just be sure the jammies button up the front and are two piece for nursing access. It feels SO incredibly wonderful to shower and put on your own real clothing. You do have to wait to get your I.V. out first though. Short gowns are the best option, so the padding can be changed in your bed frequently...not to be gross, but there are necessary dressing and bed padding that requires easy access by the nurses. A robe and slippers are great for nursing privacy and for wearing to the Mother/Baby class that the hospital offers (mine did anyway).

Oh, YES. Anything that makes you more comfortable and restores your dignity! Just make sure you DO have easy access for the doctor to take a look and to go potty- it's going to be difficult for a while!

Yes it's a great idea but try dark colors because it is still a little messy while in the hospital. But it's great to get out of that stupid hospital gown where everyone can see your behind.

Absolutely YES! You must bring your own clothes. I've never seen anyone wear the gown the who time. I had PJ pants and a tank top so it was easy to access for breastfeeding. You need to bring clothes to go home in too. But your uteris will still be enlarged, so maternity clothes are likely still in order for a few weeks. bring something you wore in the early stage of your pregnancy that might not fit now, like something you wore in month 3/4.
