|
|
| I am looking to take my 18yr old brother to New York City for his graduation gift. However, I am looking for some ideas of what to do upon our arrival. For instance, best sites to see, shops to go to and restaurants. Since he is only 18 I would like this to be more of a laid back trip, the point is just to have a good time and to keep the price reasonable. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your help. |

| Times Square- ESPN Zone! You would both have SO much fun there! There are tvs everywhere, even recliners you can eat in, and the food is awesome and there's an awesome game room on the upper floor! He would have SO much fun there!Still in Times Square- NBA store, the Hershey store, m&ms store and of course, have some fun and take him on the ferris wheel in Toys R' us.You can take him on the Circle Boat, it's a boat that shows you a tour of the island of Manhattan, it's really nice you see all of Manhattan by boat!Dylan's Candy Bar! Tons of candy and sweets and she just made it bigger and better!FAO SchwartzFood Network StudiosSouth Street SeaportRockefeller Center and the observation deckCentral Park and the Zoo thereChina TownLittle ItalyEllis IslandStatue of Liberty5th Avenue and all the shopping!NYC LibraryBroadway shows and off Broadway showsMuseums, lots of themSohoMagnolia Bakery, the best cupcakes! You can take him to the Bronx for Yankee Stadium and up to Queens for Shea Stadium and go to a game. I hope this helps and that you and your Brother have a fun and safe trip! |

| So keep the price reasonable..Go to MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) on Fridays after 3, its free.Go around Central Park and see the beauty in the Middle of Manhattan.Go see the Mets or Yankees, If you want to see the Yankees, bring your ID on Wednesday games when you get tickets half off in July.Go to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island for $12 each person (seems too much but its worth it.)Go to the ESPN zone, like the person above me said, its awesome.Go to the Wax Museum in Times Square. And also go on the Circle Line Cruises on the West Side, really worth it and for two hours.Use Mass Transit to save money ($2), don't take a cab cuz the meter runs for every 60 seconds in traffic. For more Info go onto....http://nycvisit.com/ |

| My friend, may I recommend a few.-Empire State Building-Rockefeller Center and the Top of the Rock Observation Deck-Times Square (no trip is complete without a visit to the"Crossroads of the World")-Lower Manhattan/Wall Street Area-United Nations-Central Park-Brooklyn Bridge (you can walk across it too)-Grand Central Terminal (largest railroad terminal in the country)-Yankee Stadium (big year for the Yankess Baseball team. This will be the last year their playing at the Original Yankee Stadium)-Governor's IslandShopping-Abercrombie & Fitch (5th Avenue @ 57th Street and Water Street between Fulton and John Streets)-American Eagle Outfiters (4 locations in Manhattan)-Urban Outfitter (8 locations in Manhattan)-Chinatown/Canal Street Area (if you want to go on the cheap for the stuff you can't get on Fifth Avenue)-NBA Store (for the basketball fan - 5th Avenue at East 52nd Street)-The Apple Computer Store (East 59th Street and Fifth Avenue)-The Time Warner Center (West 59th Street - Columbus Circle)-Hershey Store (for those with a sweet tooth)-M&M World (49th Street and 7th Avenue)-Century 21 Department Store (Church and Cortlandt Street)The best thing about visiting NYC, is that many of the attraction I listed above are very acceassible by subway and bus, as well as on foot, which is the official mode of transportation is New York City. When you're subway, instead of buy a regular MetroCard, purchase a 1-day or 7-day unlimited ride MetroCard, which will give you unlimited rides on the subway and bus system. The 1-day pass coast $7.50 a person and the 7-day pass coast $25 a person. The ulimited rides that the cards provides will really bring cost down, believe I used everyday. The card can also be use on the local bus system.I hope this list and the information provide is helpful.Good luck and enjoyNaitive New Yorker |

| I have little to add to all the great suggestions written above but I would suggest you take a sighting bus tour (Greyline or ?) to show you the lay of the land. It'll show you all the highlights first and then to be followed by a Circle Line Tour on a boat going around Manhattan Island --both are just super. Also being your brother is 18 - 2 of the great tourist resturants are Jekyll & Hyde and Planet Hollywood - expensive but you can have a burger and see all the stuff there.Everything people suggested are fantastic but don't forget a trip to Ground Zero - it is very moving & I recommend it highly. My visitors always call it the best moment of their visit.I don't know where you're from but I always take visitors to the Museum of Natural History (fantastic) & the Metropolitan Museum of Art. You can't see everything so get brochures and pick out what you'd be most interested in at both of these great places.I must confess that sometimes in order to get from Point A to point B we all jam into a cab & split the fare but only for timing reasons or fatigue! Wear really good walking shoes & be careful not to buy everything you see from street vendors. They have great buys but they're all knock-offs & don't last, wash or wear as well. Also, if you haven't been to a Macy's near you - the largest store in the US is on 34th Street. You can order a good street map or pick one up when you get here but do get one and a subway map. And have a great time and maybe see something at Radio City Music Hall; the Rocketts are off but they do have morning tours that are fantastic. |

| I went to newyork last week with a group and it is recommended to go to these places. At the first day-go to Empire state building and enjoy the sight of Newyork. When you come back down from Empire State Building, go right across the street toward a shop owned by one asian lady. Buy the minauture "Statue of Liberty" from her (i just bargained with her last week), the price is the cheapest there. Then go to ChinaTown because that is the best place to let your brother have a possitive thought about New York at the beginning of his trip (Most people that went to newyork has negative though about it, including me). After finishing shopping, go back to the hotel and wake up early the next day. Go to Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island early in the morning to avoid waiting in line. (The LIne in LONG), then from there on you can go visit:Lincoln CenterRadio CityBroadway (absolute MUST GO)Time SquareDon't go to the poorer part of the city, stay near time square, because you and your brother might see more than what you want to see...Have a great trip |
