|
|
Cousin's son is graduating from high-school. I've been invited to reception. Plan on just giving money in card. Should I just stuff cash in the envelope or write a check?

Write a cheque so they know who to thank. Cash can disappear too quickly .

Write a check! My daughter just graduated this year. The checks were deposited into her account but the cash she just held on to to spend immediately. It spreads out the enjoyment of her gifts a bit longer. Also, if he doesn't yet have a savings/checking account, he might open one.

Put the cash in a card. Checks are and not used very frequently any more (more importantly, it will take your cousin's son more time to get the money you would like him to spend). Also, you may be incorrectly assuming that your cousin's son has a bank account that he can cash the check at (without a fee).

Yes if you send it in the mail it's not save at all to put money in an envelope .. you should still send the card by registered mail.... in case it gets lost you have some proof then and they will try to trace it.. xxx

Cash is always good, but a check is probably more popular because that way if they need it for their future, it would be easier to hold onto and deposit in a bank account. Also, it's easier to send thank you notes with the address being on your check.

It depends, the son will of course want the cash, a check does not necessarily mean he won't spend it quickly on something silly, that depends on his goals and if he is saving for something. Teenagers also think checks are like cassette tapes b/c of the electronic age and use of debit cards. If you don't want to give cash, give a cash card from your bank, that way he can use it anywhere just like cash.

Depends on how much you're giving. If it's under $100, you can just get nice crisp bills and stuff it in a card. Over $100, it's probably safer to do a check.

I graduated in ealier this month so trust me when I say, check, so it slows down spending, encourages saving and makes me feel up to my financial responsibilities.
