My husband's new boss's daughters (twins!) are turning 1 and we're going to their birthday party. Needless to say, my husband wants to get them a great present and he has nominated me to do the gift shopping! Is it a given that if you get a gift for twins you have to get them the same thing?Any suggestions for a really good gift for twin girls turning 1? Thanks for your suggestions.

I would NOT get them the exact same thing - the parents would probably return one of the toys you get. Who wants two of the same toy in their house? One of my daughter's favorite presents for her 1st birthday was a doll and accessories (stroller, etc.) Maybe you could get them each a doll, and then get some accessories and mark that to both of them. Just a thought.

I wouldn't buy them the same thing, especially being so young, they won't know the difference anyway. (Like "i want what she got")I know if I had twins, I would not want two of every toy. I have 2 boys and my husband & I have specified that we don't want two of every toy at Christmas time--they need to learn to share. If its something they both need one of, then that's different. Every girl needs her own babydoll so maybe go that route. That would be the only thing I would buy the same. Maybe go the educational route and buy them education toys. Maybe buy one the Leap Frog refrigerator magnets and buy the other one The ABC catapilliar.

The thing with babies, even into toddler hood, is that they always want what the other person has, even if it's the same thing. I agree that getting them one big toy to share would be fun. If that isn't an option look for two different toys. It really doesn't matter which one gets which gift. Most households with multiple children (especially twins) have no possession. A few things will belong to each child, but usually toys and such are community property.

Get different gifts.I have twins and all the birthday stuff was a lot of fun, when they were young. Besides, they are two different people . Books are always a great gift. They have those gift sets of baby books with the plush animal to go with the story. But one book and two stuffed gifts. They will share :http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?categoryId=2269727&f=PAD%2FTRU+Age+Filter%2F12-24+Months&fbc=1&fbn=TRU+Age+Filter%7C12-24+Monthshttp://www.youngexplorers.com/search.asp?SKW=02plus&TKW=YE12&scat=Y&GEN1=Toys+for+Birth+to+2+Years+and+Up&srccode=NXBYGO&kwsrch=nonbrandhttp://www.littlemummy.com/2007/03/02/5-birthday-gift-ideas-for-a-one-year-old/

I would give one large gift (like perhaps a tea set and table, or an inflatable pool with water toys). That way they won't be fighting over the "favorite toy" and the parents aren't cleaning up more duplicates Barbies and stuffed animals.

We never got our twins the same thing except for a few toys. I can't help you on what without knowing the price range, how much do you want to spend? |

My twins at that age shared everything ... so it doesnt matter ...I think developmental toys are always are great gift ... plus you have a hand in enhancing their growth process!
