|
|
| I have a new neighbor who just moved in. Her husband and she were supposed to move here (NC) from NY together, but he passed just before they moved. Any ideas or recipes of what I can make her as a welcome to the south and welcome to the neighborhood gift? |

| A basket with: a list of the best doctors, pharmacy, grocery store, hairdresser, nail salon nearby; a local yellow pages (it took us 2 mos. to get one when we moved to Texas)... In fact, a gift certificate for a manicure/pedicure might be a real treat for her-especially after doing all that unpacking! ..... Some fresh ground coffee, with some fresh Krispy Kreme donuts (they might not have those in NY) ..... A flower pot with some seeds, or herb plants and gardening gloves (and maybe the Southern Living gardening book) |

| If she is a cook, I would give her the best seasonal fruit and a recipe to match. Like fresh peaches and a recipe for cobbler or fresh peach ice cream. Or a biscuit mix and some biscuit recipes. |

| I agree with TX2step. Maybe even a street map of the area so she can find the stores and get acquainted. Tell her where the local coffee shops are and offer to take her out. Or the local bookstores. She needs a friend now, be as helpful as you can. And take over one of your favorite southern dishes, like cornbread or something. I moved to a new area and everyone was so quiet, it would have been great to have anyone greet me as a neighbor. |

| I would make homemade banana pudding (which a LOT of people from other parts of the country have never had) or a classic chocolate pound cake. My banana pudding recipe is on my site with full photo tutorial as is my grandmother's chocolate pound cake recipe with fudge glaze. Step by step and photos along the way! Let me know if I can be of any help!http://www.southernplate.com/2008/07/homemade-banana-pudding-tutorial.htmlBanana Puddinghttp://www.southernplate.com/2008/07/chocolate-pound-cake-with-fudge-glaze.htmlChocolate pound cake with fudge glaze |
