a pack of diapers and a gift card. The diapers are always my favorite. I hate buying them and I hate running out. The gift card comes in handy in returning to a certain store and also when you realize that everybody bought you clothes in the same size and now your baby has nothing to wear because it's all too small

I crochet lovely baby items (shawls etc) for craft fairs - I have a couple of items finished at the moment if youre interested. Each one is different and you cant buy them in the shops!

I got my sister-in-law a fabulous diaper cake from this site. It was unique, useful, and beautiful as a centerpiece for the baby shower. http://www.babyswaddlecakes.com.

Get a doll that will fit baby clothes and dress it in a few onesies and some socks and an outfit. Oh and don't forget a hat. Wrap it in a blanket and carry it in like a real baby.....

registry is best, if you are close get something a liitle bigger in price but if she is distant a couple of outfits are fine.

To answer your question and respond to other people's questions I would say DON'T GET CLOTHING! its too hard to know what the size of the baby is going to be and EVERYONE buys all these cute little outfits that mom just doesn't have any time to put on him. They sit in a drawer. Trust me, I am going through this right now! There is something that I have found invaluable as a new mom its called "Mybrestfriend" if she intends to breastfeed, it is a great tool, I also use mine for bottle feeding. www.mybrestfriend.com

I think diapers is a great gift. But don't buy newborn size, everyone else will. Buy size 1 or 2 that way she will have them when all her newborn sizes run out. Let me tell you the best gift I ever got was a bad of Chocolate and a card that said, I know everyone is getting stuff for the baby but Mommy's need LOVE too.

I can tell you that she WON'T need blankets. EVERYBODY gives blankets. I had so many handmade blankets that I have an entire bin full of them that have have never been used.Definitely diapers, something off the registry, a gift card, or cash.Regarding the registry, maybe buy a bunch of the small items and make a big gift out of that. Nobody ever gets the small stuff and it's just a hassle to have to get all that stuff at the last minute. In addition, if you live in the area, offer to cook a meal for them for when they get home from the hospital.
