I am originally from NY where everything is done over the top. Weddings are huge and so are the gifts (average gift is about $250 for an average salary couple/ $500 if your really well off). Just wondering what gifts are like in other parts of the country.Let me clarify by saying this is in addition to an engagement gift and a bridal shower gift (about $100 for each).

In the UK our guests gave us between £100 (around $200) to £1000.00 (£2000.00), but most of those come from a married couple. If you are single you can half it I guess and just gove £50. I used to do that when I went to weddings when I was single.

Here in MA, people normally go by the "pay for your plate" method. So, normally each person will give about $100 ($200 for a couple), but, if someone is still in school, they tend to give only $50. If a person is apart of the wedding party or a really good friend, they tend to give more, though.

I am in Canada and it depends on the couple. If it's someone really close I would say 200. If there not too close mabey 150. The lease would be 100 because you'r covering you'r plate. If you'r covering you'r plate thats the part that matters.

Depends on how close you are with the couple. Close relatives get more than friends or just acquaintances. Home in Greece I gave between 50-100 euros, now in the UK £20-50.

I live in central NJ, and much like NY, things are over the top here too. Your prices look about right for the weddings I've been to.

Wow! I live in a rural county and our wedding, baby, and graduation gifts usually run around $25.00. If it's a family member, we splurge up to $100 - $200. Of course, the cost of living here is tremendously different.

I'm from Northern NJ and if you were on a tight budget $50 was considered the bare minimum you could get by with. The "norm" is usually $100 to $150 per person attending ($200 - $300 for a couple) and more if the people marrying are close relatives or very close friends.

I'm from Chicago. A typical wedding gift is $100 per person ($200 per couple). You'll give more if you're better off or if the bride or groom is family. This is also in addition to any shower or other gifts. Of course, not everybody gives the same amount. At our recent wedding (from people who actually attended the wedding), the monetary gifts ranged from $25 per couple to $500 per couple. Two couples gave no gift at all. People in their 20s gave less than people in their 40s and up (as their means dictated). So, even the "normal" isn't normal.
