|
|
| Hi there. I tip my dog groomer throughout the year, and then at Christmas I give her a $25 gift certificate for the liquor store. Now that we have 2 dogs, should I double up the amount to $50 at Christmas? And would it be a better idea to split the gift certificates, $25 to the liquor store and $25 somewhere else (any ideas anyone?) or keep it all in one place? I don't know how much she drinks, lol, and if she'd need that much every year at the same store.Edit: My dogs are Shih Tzus, and they aren't that much trouble as far as their coats, because I keep them well brushed. One of them gives her a bit of a hard time around his face sometimes, but that's about it. They each usually go at different times, so she gets a tip for each visit. I really feel that she needs to get a bigger tip at Christmas now that she does two dogs instead of one... |

| I think tips are usually based on the amount of money you spend on the service being provided. |

| I tip 5 dollars max. We are doing them a favor by bringing our business to them. I wouldn't worry too much about it. |

| I wouldn't increase the Christmas gift at all. That's more than generous enough to show your appreciation. Tips for service are generally based on the amount paid for the service. 15% would be the standard, going up and down from there for especially good or poor service. |

| It is customary to tip the dog groomer the same as you would your hair dresser. As far as the Christmas bonus, that is entirely up to you, and they will be thankful for any size gift you give them. Sound like you are very generous. And as far as what to give them...CASH is KING -- let them spend it on whatever they want, rather than a gift certificate. |

| Just my opinion but liquor + the person holding blades near a dog = bad idea, but hey whatever you want to do. But I'd hope that $25 dollars lasts your groomer quite a long time.I think it depends on the size and difficulty of your dogs, if for example you have Bouvier de Flanders that you keep in full coat and must be hand cut with a razor blade and that don't like standing still on the table, you might be under tipping. But if you've got small dogs that get easy haircuts $25 dollars is a very fair tip. Considering that lots of people don't give their groomers Christmas gifts I doubt she expects you to give her anything more now that you've got two dogs.Edit to add: If you want to give her more feel free, but you are already doing more than most people do. Groomer I work for grooms these two Bouviers like I described above every month and you know what the owner tips her? $25 gift card for petsmart every Christmas, never tips after a hair cut. You are a very generous person, I'm sure your groomer doesn't expect more than what you already give. |

| YIKES! I feel like a cheapskate! I never tip dog groomers. For one thing, the groomer is usually the owner of the business, and one does not tip owners. For another, groomers make darned good money as it is. Finally, I am just sick and tired of being bled for tips! My papercarrier, whose face I have never laid eyes upon, sends me a Christmas card in a self-addressed envelope every year - hint, hint! I do generously tip restaurant servers and manicurists, because they are low paid and overworked. And I tip my hair stylist, although I suspect she makes more money than I do, because I don't want her taking out her wrath on my 'do. But your dog groomer??? You are a very generous soul! |
