i filed my amended taxes this year n feb.-got a form n the mail n may stating a EIC was not completed-mailed it back off n the overnight mail-called this morning 2 the IRS and a rep.(by the way-she was very sweet and helpful)told me that a 8009 form was mailed off aug. 12, 2008-needing 2 signatures-not notarized-just 2 signatures witnessed-in all i have waited over 6 months-also the "FREE" rebate would get 2 me by july 5-well because ,(I) 4 some reason keep missing paperwork-have 2 wait until the amended is finished-b4 the rebate will b mailed off. i have been amending 4 over 12 years b cause the absent father continues 2 claim my son-they have the same name-1 is a jr. and 1 is a 3rd-and irs/soc.sec. says they can do nothing about it-it'll just 1 day catch up with him-hinceforth it's always been 6-8 weeks up until this year. what will happen when it's time 4 me 2 file taxes for 2008? will that also b put on hold until the 2007 r completed? help-meanwhile the $$$$$ i had saved-now i'm having 2 scrimp and scrape -the rebate was a gift-but i worked hard and legally for my amended money-anybody have an xtra 1500 until i get mine? a serious ? folks!

About the only thing you can do for future years is to try to efile early enough that you'll be in before your child's idiot father files - then HIS return will be rejected, and yours won't be delayed. Unfortunately, paper returns, and even moreso, amended returns, take a lot of time to process.Good luck.

I'm not sure if I can answer your entire question, however, I do have a suggestion for your 2008 tax filing: Do it first, before the father. I know that you may not know when he does it, but try to get yours filed as soon as you get y our W-2's. My son's father has TRIED to claim him three years in a row now. BUT lucky me...I made it there first. He went to H&R Block and they charge him the whopping $200.00 buck to file and then when they submit it, it comes back and tells him that he can't claim our son because he has already been claimed for that current year. I dont understand what makes him think he has the right to even TRY to claim our son, as he doesn't have custody and doesn't always pay support!
