|

I am going to a wedding in a couple of weeks. The bride and groom don't have a registry but I would prefer to give a physical gift rather than money because I wouldn't be able to give much money but get a discount at a store so would be able to buy them a really nice gift.I've already bought them a cheeseboard and cheese knife set and I know neither the bride or groom have a set of stake knives- I was wondering if this would be a strange gift to give? It's a nice boxed set, silver- not cheap and nasty ones. I just didn't know if it would be strange or not...? Or any other suggestions for something small to go with the cheese board/knife set? (apart from cheese).sorry, steak knifes

You might need to consider the couple's customs; you wouldn't want to shock them. The gift you suggested seemed more suitable for a housewarming gift rather than a wedding gift. Why not consider purchasing gift vouchers instead? Auction sites would have them on a discount. If budget is tight, why not consider giving something personalised and hand made, like a collage of the couple from the beginning of ther relationship? Or you may want to share a gift with someone else? Good luck!

the cheese board is a nice idea. My fiance and I registered for a cheese board, since we buy a lot of bricks of hard cheeses. If you believe in wedding superstitions, dont go for the steak knives. I heard that if someone aside from a family member buys knives as a wedding gift, thier friendship will be severed forever. maybe you can get them a nice photo album for all of thier wedding pics. Check out target.com, they have some really pretty ones and they are affordable!

I've never heard about giving knives being bad. It seems like a perfectly normal and reasonable wedding gift to me, especially considering that they don't already have a set.

I think that's lovely. Maybe a book on cheeses/entertaining if you want to add something -http://www.amazon.com/Cheese-Lovers-Companion-Ultimate-Cheese-Related/dp/0060537043/ref=pd_sim_b_8http://www.amazon.com/Cheese-Deck-Connoisseurs-Guide-Worlds/dp/030738179X/ref=pd_sim_b_34http://www.amazon.com/Cheese-Primer-Steven-Jenkins/dp/0894807625/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219326702&sr=1-6http://www.amazon.com/Cheese-Plate-Max-Mccalman/dp/0609604961/ref=pd_sim_b_3http://www.amazon.com/Murrays-Cheese-Handbook-Worlds-Cheeses/dp/0767921305/ref=pd_sim_b_3

It seems you want to dress up your gift. Why don't you buy 4 'everyday' wine glasses, a bottle of wine and a little wheel of Brie. Get some gift straw, clear cellophane and curly ribbon. Cut sides off cardboard box into L shape (but leave a little bit of the flaps on each side), wrap cardboard with same outer wrapping paper as gift. Fill with staw. Angle cheese board in back, Wine bottle to right side, 2 wine glasses criss crossed in front, sit cheese on stems, another wine glass standing on each side (you can also put fake rose in standing wine glasses)
