Should a bridal shower gift be something off the wedding registry? My invitation only came with the wedding registry card? Or should it be something more fun and personal?

Either way is fine. I would say it depends on how well you know the bride. If it is a close friend or family member then I think you could probably hit a home run with a personal gift, but if you don't know the bride so well then I'd play it safe and stick to the registry.

Stick with the registry and then maybe buy something else small if you want.

You can go either way. You can get something personal for the shower and something from the registry for the wedding. Or, you can get something from the registry for the shower and money for the wedding. Definitely get 2 separate gifts though - they are two separate events.

As a former bride, if people wanted to buy an actual present, I wanted the items on my registry. Aside from cash and gift cards, the gifts that we received not on our registry were not great, and we ended up with 3 crock pots....1 we registerd for and kept, 1 we returned, and 1 we ended up giving to my sister in law because we couldn't return it to any store. Buy them something off the registry....they registered for those gifts because that is what the couple wants.

The best gift I recieved at my shower was not something practical from my registry. It was a quilt that my cousin made just for my husband and I. It was the only gift to make me cry the whole night. If you're not going to buy off the registry, then make sure it's something creative and personal.

I agree with CR. We actually were considering not registering but then knowing that people would want to get things for us, we figured it would be best to register for things that we wanted or would actually use.
