I heard there was a catalog that you could buy gift certificates to and then give the certificate to someone and they use it in the catalog to get things for charity. For example, you buy a $50 certificate, then the recipient looks through the catalog and selects from among the $50 value "gifts," such as potable water for a village, or school supplies for 10 kids, etc. Sounds like a great idea, but I can't seem to find such a thing.

I couldn't find anything either but on Ebay they have a non-profit area where you can buy gifts for all sorts of charities and a portion is donated to that charity.

http://giftshopcatalog.com/ says this "We are an order fulfillment site for schools, churches, sport teams, and other 501c organizations. When you enter the coupon code they gave you, your purchases help to support their fundraising programs"or this one:http://donate.wvus.org/OA_HTML/xxwvibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=10024where you can give a fishing kit, a pig, or other useful item to someone in need in an underdeveloped country.
