It means you can not buy something with a gift card, and get the discount, it's one or the other.

It means it's only available when you pay via credit/debit card, or cash. You cannot purchase these items with your gift card.

That means you won't be able to use the coupon on a purchase you make on the gift card. If you want the discount you will have to pay with cash, check, credit card, or debit card.

Is it like a 25% off or buy 1 get 1 free kinda coupon? (Or something similar)? Because if so, this probably means that you have to purchase the item with cash or credit card in order to use the coupon. If you use a gift card, they will charge you the full price. They want to make some money still.

It means you can not purchase a gift card and use your coupon to do so. Like, if you have a 20% off coupon, you can't get a $100 gift card for $80. You can pay for your purchase with a gift card, and take your percentage or dollar amount off.

It depends on what kind of coupon/clearance it is. If it's like 50% off the entire store for example they won't let you buy a $20 gift card for $10. Then you could just keep buying gift cards and make a ton of money. But if that is the sale then you should be able to buy any other item in the store with a gift card. Other than that it may be a specific rule the store has. So I'd say you're probably pretty darn safe to go ahead and buy something with that gift card.
