Is it okay to open shower gifts as they arrive, or should they all be saved for the shower?

i would definitely open the bigger items, perhaps set them up in the nursery for now and then allow your shower guests to check out their great gifts. personally i would be getting the majority of the gifts opened now and just explain that you didnt want to be overwhelmed by all the gifts. most people understand especially the ones from out of town who wont be there. congrats!!
