I will be going to Jakarta in a week. I wanted to bring back some nice souvenirs for my friends. I need to buy at least 13 items. My friends are in their early 20s (guys and girls). What do you recommend?? I'll need to budget myself because its alot of gifts =)Thanks!!

something usable is always the best idea, trinkes will just become cludder so try and stay away from them. Perhaps something that is uses as a staple by the natives of the land, then you can show your friends how it works and what it is for, it would become a usable conversation peice.

Girls and Guys in their 20's like Jewelry. Necklaces or Bracelets for the girls and maybe a ring or something for the guys. At least that's what my friends would like.

go to Pasarya Grande, (sp?) this large mall has like 2 floors of goods and batik. There is tons of stuff you can get from small wood carvings($2 USD) to intricate balinese masks ($1 - $6 USD). The list goes on you can probably spend a good day there. Should be no problem for your budget. Make sure you bargain as some things will usually get a 40 -50% discount.

Head to any department store and go to their handicraft floor. You can pick out some stuff for your close friends and get little stuff for the rest. A lot of what you'll see is stuff you can buy in the States (just much cheaper). Sterling silver is super cheap so you can get good friends some really cute stuff.

Pasaraya Grande, a huge, multi-level department store in the Blok M area, is an excellent place to shop for gifts. You can spend hours there just looking around.Go to the 4th level for batiks (placemats/napkins, sarongs, and scarfs make nice gifts for girl friends). Batik Keris has a particularly large section of batik, including robes, packable tote bags, and slippers -- all really pretty. And stop by level 5 for Indonesian handicrafts. You can find really beautiful (and practical) wooden items, ceramics, and housewares inlaid with mother of pearl, bamboo, and cinnamon sticks. Just remember to consider an item's bulk before you buy it -- you've got lots of presents to buy!

I had bought Batik shirts, blouses and skirts for my friends. There's a mall there called Sareenah or Sarina or something similar in Jakarta where a good collection of authentic Indonesian Batik is available. Inexpensive too.

I think traditional handicrafts would make a lovely choice. Most major shopping malls have traditional handicrafts corners. Batik cloth or clothes is the most common gift. Silverwares is another option.Batik Keris & Pasar Raya Sarinah are to name a few of the dept. stores in Jakarta specializing in traditional handicrafts.
