I am going to my cousin-in-law's bridal shower in a few weeks and am looking for some gift ideas. We don't have a lot of money right now and everything on her registries seems to be $50 and up; all the cheaper items are things you would have to buy multiples of (wine glasses, napkin holders, etc). Any suggestions for a limited budget? She sent a bath basket to my shower via her mom (she didn't attend) and didn't give us any wedding present even though she is in her mid 20's and brought a guest. I'm not her biggest fan but for the sake of my husband and mother in law would like to find a considerate, inexpensive gift that doesn't look cheap.

i would say combined some of the things she needs multiples of like one glass, one plate, one bowl etc. to make one complete set. or make her a gift basket. you dont have to buy things on her registry.

Maybe a nice picture frame or candles. Or even do the same as her with a bath basket.

Something nice from Pier 1 Imports is always a good way to go. Nearly anything for the home is always a safe thing to get. It can "say", congratulations, but doesn't have to have alot of "heart" behind it if you don't feel it.If they are moving into a new place...a gift card to a home improvement place like Lowes, Home Depot can be useful as well.A more heartfelt type of gift could be a simple antique for decoration in their new place...a nice small lamp or interesting old framed picture or painting.

What about something that would compliment one of the items on the registry? Like a bottle of wine, or a bundle of paper napkins in assorted colors/patterns (the nice ones, not the cheap ones)... I think it might be unexpected, but pleasantly so! One other idea: A nice porcelain or ceramic soap dispenser for either dishwashing soap or hand soap, and accompany with a soap refill. That kind of thing is often not on the registry, but a really nice thing to have.

Just find something that compliments the things on her registries-- same color or style, etc. Just use the registry as "hints."

I had to do this a few months ago. I purchased a decorative laundry basket, and filled it w/ a 1 of each of the towels (bath, hand & washcloth), some bath salts, oils and candles, just raid the dollar store & you should find some stuff.Another idea is to buy a pretty colander - check the discount stores & fill w/ pasta & some utinsels.

One of my favorite wedding gifts came from two of my poor-college-student friends: a huge stainless steel bowl, with a classic movie and a dozen packages of microwave popcorn tucked inside. You could bump it up a notch with a ceramic mixing bowl (or a nice melamine one in her kitchen colors) and some gourmet popcorn. Or, get some cute containters (Lee Valley has awesome ones -- I'll put the link below) and fill them with bulk spices from your local grocery or health food store. Bulk spices are super cheap, and you can pick out some more unusual ones if they have an interest in cooking. Stop by Half Price Books for a cookbook and you're done.

Using her registry as a color guide:Large plastic mixing bowlAsst kitchen utensilsPot holdersKitchen towelsCandles - found some at Freds that were fruit/herb blendsI did this for my niece, adding muffin and brownie mixes and her two favorites - mac & cheese and english peas.A nice cookbook w/ a personal note written inside the cover, along w/ the above goodies would be nice, too.Or, fix them a movie nite set:Large ceramic mixing bowlMovie butter microwave popcorn Popcorn spicesMovie rental gift card (enough for 1 or 2 movies)Throw blanket for snugglingToss in a set of mugs and cocoa mix or stemless wine glasses (can be found, plain ones, at pier one for around 3 bucks) and a cheap bottle of wine.Or, go fun - get them an ice cream maker or shaved ice machine! Most all of this can be found at your nearest wal-mart, target, freds or dollar general (excepting the stemless glasses and the wine - unless you go w/ Wild Vines, which is good and you get it at wal-mart for about $4)

I would also suggest a bath basket with some aromatherapy candles, or even a set of nice candles with a great scent to them. Towel sets for bath and kitchen are always a good gift or a crystal or silver frame to use for her wedding pic.
