I am thinking about getting one for my daughter's kindergarten teacher for an end-of-the-year gift. But I've been reading up on them and they seem more like a hassle than a great gift idea. Please let me know what you think. She is an older lady and is just now getting "up" on technology. Do you think she would have a hard time using it?I am exploring this option b/c I feel that teachers already get enough "clutter" gifts and I try not give gifts that teachers might feel obligated to hold on to. My aunt has been a teacher for 30+ years and her house is a FILLED with things she has received over the years from her students. She can't seem to part with them but yet still her house is a MESS! Also, the part of her just now getting "up on technology" was not meant to be derogative. What I meant was, in reading (online) the fine print of the cards myself, i find that they may be a little confusing. She would have to know the balance of her card beforehand and tell the cashier how much to deduct for the purchase if her purchase is going to exceed the value of the card. Also, I read somewhere that in some places the card may be declined if there is not a certain amount of money on the card beyond what she is trying to purchase...i.e gas stations

I received an All Access Visa Gift card and loved it because it was not just limited to restaurants, etc. When I was short on cash, there was prepaid Visa. However, it came with stipulations. It had to be used by such and such date ( within two years, very fair),or the balance would be forfeited. Most do come with some sort of stipulation, so please advise her to read the fine print. Even though she is older, there is a good chance she aready has a couple of cards in her wallet.

i have never had any problems with the visa check card. i usually purchase one at commerce bank. but i think giving money is a little informal, what about a gift certifiate for a manicure and pedicure or what about a nice vase with a beautfiul flower arrangement. my mom is a kindergarden teacher and the best gifts she keeps and remebers are the homemade ones that moms and kids do together (like a hand painted pot holder) simple things that makes her smile.FYI DONT BE SUCH A B!TCH WHEN PEOPLE OFFER ADVICE, TO CALL UR AUNTS HOUSE CLUTTERED WITH USELESS GIFTS IS EXTREMELY RUDE, IT SHOWS THAT SHE REMEBERS THE KIDS WHOS EDUCATION SHE HELPED MOLD, YOUR A VERY RUDE PERSON! U SHOUDL BE ASHAMED!

I think it's a good idea. The cards are accepted anywhere Visa is accepted so she can use them at her grocery store, Target, gas station, hair salon, wherever she wants. Seems like a good gift idea to me. This is the same as a credit card, so the technology part doesn't matter. You don't need to be high tech to use a credit card.

they are a hassle...get her a nice plant or restaurant gift card... because a lot of restaurants are own by the same company you can buy do the research and find out which group of them is best suited... in this area we have mall gift certificates that are good at any store or restaurant in the mall. the credit card gift cards are a big hassle to use and sometimes have additional fees on top of what you already paid for them.

My granddaughter got one for Christmas and was very pleased because it doesn't limit the recipient to one store. A Visa gift card is accepted by most restaurants and shops - the opportunities for using it are endless.Check with your daughter's school however since some schools limit the amount a teacher can accept - some allow none. You might want to consider a classroom gift that will be enjoyed by the teacher and her next class of children (?)

Yes, all bank gift cards (Visa, MC, Discover, AmEx) come with fees and expiration dates. You may even need to pay more than face value to buy one. At the same time you get the versatility of a gift card that is accepted just about anywhere. As long as it's used quickly there is no hassle for the person who receives it.If you're looking for gift card bargains, try this site - http://www.stargiftcardexchange.comGood luck!
