Anything Australian but go to a really good store if u want to spend that much get vintage and good advise.Note save the label carefully and cork. Make a plaque or scrapbook the wine. Add more as u go along. Martha Stewart has ideas I usually get great craft stuff from the magazines or website.

you can pick up a copy of wine speculator from a book store, it'll help you with your decision. it really depends on what your friends like? italian wines are really in right now. try a good super tuscan if you like a punch you in the face kinda wine, really rich and tannin-y. i personaly don't think you need to buy one quite that expensive.

If you are going to spend that kind of money, might as well have them know you did. Go for a big California Cabernet Sauvignon, or a "Meritage" (a Bordeaux style blend of, usually, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot) Some well known labels:Opus OneCaymusSilver OakJoseph Phelps InsigniaGrothJordanTo a wine lover any of these labels (and more I did not mention) are a gift of taste and knowlege, sure to be appreciated. (I know I would!)

Try a Bordeaux, either a St-Émilion or Pessac-Léognan (Médoc are sometimes a bit difficult to approach and may need more aging). Though quite different, they are both powerful, rich and complex wines. Get a 2000 vintage if you can.
