| Get her one card congratulating her on her Graduation and wishing her Happy birthday. Get her one gift for the 2 occasions. She should learn to understand that you don't have money growing in your backyard. Don't overstrain yourself for the sake of pride. |

| One present would be fine. Try jewelry. Go to Claire's at the Mall. They are inexpensive, and stylish, they cater to the younger set. Keep the receipt, she can take it back if she hates it. Or, make it yourself, if you know how. Look around a bit, find something grad, like a charm with the class number, or a morterboard charm. Inexpensive even in sterling. Try the bead and charm stores, and bigger department stores, and Hallmark. If you wish, go in with the boyfriend, and buy a joint present. Is the grad going on to college? Money, a gift card to a discount department store [ask her Mom which one].I have a pet peeve, and that is combining events such as a birthday and a graduation to get more bigger better gifts. And another, including people you don't know very well to shake them down, too. Really, Aunt should have said, "oh, nephew's girlfriend, we would love for you to come, but please don't bring a present! You don't know my daughter very well, we just want to get to know you!" And then you show up with a token, inexpensive present.Call the Mom, and ask for ideas. You are not obligated to get anything she suggests, if those things are over your budget. |

One generic Best Wishes card and one gift will suffice. As for the gift, here are a few suggestions:Gift card (If she's going away to college, a $20 gift card to Bed, Bath, and Beyond is great. If not, Target, Best Buy, Circuit City works well for anything.) Bath and Body stuff is always cool--get her nice stuff, though. Sephora has nice bath and body wash for under $20. Target also has some nice selections. An inspirational book might be appreciated--something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Experts-Guide-Things-Everyone-Should/dp/1400052564/ref=pd_bbs_2/102-9893140-9846508?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1180735335&sr=1-2Since you are not that close to this person, there is no reason to spend a lot of money or lose any sleep over it. |
