Just say in the invitation "no toys as gifts" and explain why...most people should understand that...maybe specifically ask for certain gift certificates for restaurants you could all go to or somewhere the kids love...just explain you have too much clutter and really don't need anymore toys because you have mountains of them...it will not come off as rude, it is understandable...

You DON'T need to have a dang birthday party for your kid. It's not about YOU and what YOU want. Have a quiet family party.

I think it's kind of rude to ask for gift cards. I would instead just say you are having a book birthday party. Or a clothing birthday party. Put his size in there and add a p.s. that you are trying to cut down on toys. It's much more fun than just saying bring a gift card. For all they know, you could use that for something else. Or just say, please no gifts. Your company is just fine!

I personally never want to seem like I am expecting gifts, so the best option IMO, is to say "Over the years we have found that our family and friends are very generous and as such, our home is cluttered with "generosity", if you would like to bring a gift, a gift card or certificate would be preferred. Thank you for your understanding, our family looks forward to spending time with you!" Good luck!

At the end of the invitation just put in highligth "Please no toys as gifts, Thank you"...People should understand, well most people will, others will bring toys anyway just because they don“t read all of the invitation... But in general you will get much less toys to worry about..

"Name" is turning one, Please join us for lots of fun...He really needs no more toys, if you would like...... please bring something useful for little boys :)Good luck....just remember when people ask what they can get...mention pull ups, underwear, clothes, anything that you can use for him. And if not....Remember it is HIS birthday...He would probably enjoy a couple toys....Perhaps you will have to sort through the old ones and have a yard sale or donate them....
