Some people are just thoughtless and get that as a last minute fill in, but some truly dont know what to get and would rather letthe person pick and choose on theri own instead of disappointing the person. I would be the later- and I would prefer a gift car myself, if someone was unsure about what to get me.

I think it is a great idea considering there is so much out there and the t pre-teens have so many interests.

When a) the latest gadgets became way too expensive for adults or b)adults didn't know what to get them. Really, Idk, but that seems the case for me most of the time.

its because if you dont know what to get them, you just get them a gift card for some where and they can get what ever they want...and you dont have to deal with the chance of getting them something bad and them returning it!

I think it was right around the same time people started deciding to give their kids everything they wanted instead of making them work for it or wait for it. So many teenagers seem to already have so much, I think. At 26 and with my next birthday right around the corner, I still make birthday lists of specific things I want. Another problem may be that people just aren't paying as much attention to each other's interests anymore and so a gift card is a "safe" default gift. I ask for gift cards sometimes, but they're for places like Target or a bookstore, still slightly specific in nature...and I never give gift cards to people when I can manage to scrape together money for gifts, they are always something special.

when people lost their creativity. I hate getting gift cards. I am gonna be 15 in september and I have gotten gift cards since my 12 b-day. They are always to stupid stores that i dont even shop at. I appreciate a nice meaningful card instead of a gift card. When I get one I think, this person forgot my b-day and needed a last minute thing.

They became the defalut when everything you got them they either didn't like or just ignored. We started getting gift cards because they are 1) in between sizes 2) extremly picky at that age and 3) just dont know what they want until they see it. When you get them a gift card, it is thoughtless and lazy, but allows the preteen to get what they really want.
