|
|
I have been invited to a wedding for a couple I don't know very well, - here are the circumstances: Bride & groom are in their late 40s, both have been previously married, they have combined their households and live together. Upcoming wedding is for 75-100 guests, complete with bridesmaids, flower girl, bride wearing long white dress, etc... I don't know them very well, and I'm not aware of any hobbies that they enjoy together, so I'm at a loss for gift ideas. I do know that they are planning a honeymoon in Mexico. Any ideas other than the usual gift card would be appreciated.

Are they registered anywhere? If so, check out their registry. Let's face it . . . if they have combined households, then they probably have most everything they need. I really think a gift card would be your best bet. Maybe one to a favorite restaurant? That way, they can enjoy a romantic dinner for two when they get back from their honeymoon.

Well,to be honest, if you don't know them well then a gift card or money is PERFECT and they'll be very happy w/ that. Don't worry. Why are you stressing about making the gift so great if you hardly know them? Make things easy on yourself - get the gift card! As a new wife, believe me....when we got married, we LOOOOVED getting gift cards and money.

Perhaps a gift basket of small indulgences would be a good idea. For a bathroom basket you could combine pretty soaps, a good loofah, guest towels, perhaps some bubble bath in a not too frou-frou scent. For a kitchen basket, put in a small package of good coffee or tea, little jams and jellies, a pair of cute coffee mugs, maybe a pot holder or two.If they're going to Mexico and you'd like to give a basket of goodies for the honeymoon, consider massage oil in a tropical scent, cool his and hers sunglasses (if they don't need prescription ones!), suntan lotion or sunscreen, a pair of margarita glasses.Keep it a bit general since you don't know them particularly well, keep indivdual items small, and put it all in a pretty basket with a nice ribbon bow.I'm sure they'd love something like that. Most people do.

Debdee, since you are unsure of what they would need, I would suggest a honeymoon basket. It's a great gift and you can do it for less than $20 or you can blow a fortune on it. Your choice.Honeymoon basket: wine, glasses, candles, candys, bubble bath, rose petals, and pretty soaps. You can go hog wild and put whatever you like in it, and you can you use a decorate box that they can use again. There's so much you can do, I did my daughter a personal one with things for a new bride, another one I did, the bride loved carebears, so I did her's with carebears soaps and bubble bath. Just use your imagination. It's more personal than a gift card, but yet it's a gift you can't go wrong with. Have a great time at the wedding.God bless us all...................

I think money (cash, not a gift card) is always appropriate. Especially since you know they have a honeymoon planned- this may give them some extra spending money to pick up some nice souveniers while they are in Mexico. The amount is up to you but I would say $50.00 is probably a fair amount.

A wedding gift or a shower gift? At the wedding its cash($100-$150), if its a shower see if you can find out where they are registered at.

If you can find out where they will be staying in Mexico, you could have champagne or something else placed in their room before they get there.

I would go and get them a nice clock that has the date that they were married and the day. It is the symbol that love never dies. Another is some art by Willow Tree has some beautiful figurines that are entiled. Try Hallmark. My mother gave me together. They are done in nuetral colors and they go with any decor. They are not overly expensive and are done in very good quality.Sears sells good Chrystal vases that are quite elegant and very nice. I was thinking you could fill it with really nice bath products for them to share in Mexico. Try Bath and Body Works. Sometimes they have his and her bath products. Always remember it is the thought that counts not the gift. Another and final idea is getting them a gift certificate for Olan Mills and that way at Christams they can get their pictures done and they can get them set off for good Christmas pics for family and friends.

Tour books for the part of Mexico they are visiting? Translator for phrases if they don't speak spanish? Something with their names and wedding date embroidered, a luxurious throw?
