My brother has been invited to a wedding for a co-worker he used to be very close to. He won't be attending the wedding and wants to know if $50 is an appropriate gift to send or if he should send more. I should also mention the groom works part-time under my brother and therefore probably knows how much money he makes.I think $50 is fine considering their relationship but other thoughts would be appriciated! Thanks! Thanks!

Sure. That's fine. He may also want to ask where they are registered. Gifts there will range in value and will be a little more personal. He can actually have the gift delivered, if he wishes. Most of the registries are on line now.

That is fine...in reality he is under no obligation to offer money if he's not attending.

That is a very generous gift. Even if the groom works part time under, alongside, or elbow to elbow, that does not mean he knows how much your brother makes. . . payroll is strictly confidential.Your brother is very generous.

The cost of a wedding gift is usually pegged to how much it would cost to feed the guest. Since he won't be attending, $50 is more than enough.
