Great idea I am sure she would be elated. Do not pay any attention to the MIL.

I think it's a really nice gesture. But, it's problematic. Yes, your mom offered to babysit; but do your sister and her hubby have the ability to pick up and leave. Will your sister or her hubby have a problem taking off from work? Do they have money for activities once they get there? Think of food costs, activity fees, a little shopping or pampering?

do it. you're her sister and you probably know her taste better than the groom's mother knows her son's taste. ugh..people and their "never asked, but given anyway" opinions. |

Typically, I'm not crazy about people giving "gifts" for wedding; however, I do like your concept because you are providing them with a chance to be alone as hubby and wife. However, I do feel that one night is a bit short and the resort might be too local for them. It might be better for you to get a gift certificate for a two-night's stay (preferably a romance package) at chain resort that they can use at a hotel anywhere in the country at any time. Then they could plan a little get-a-way out of town at a place of their choosing. If you can't afford the two nights, make sure the 1 night is a pretty nice package with dinner and champage or something, otherwise it might appear like a more whimpish gift than if it were just a gift of money; you know what I mean? If you do decide to get this for them, you might want to give it to them a day or two before the wedding so that they could have the option of preparing to use it on their wedding night. Great and thoughtful concept!

I think it's a great gift idea and you shouldn't wait to give it to them until the wedding day. Present it to them now so they can use it as their honeymoon if they want.More wedding planning tips:http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/303520/professional_tips_on_planning_your.htmlPam

I think it is very thoughtful gift they are sure to be grateful for! Since it is a gift certificate (and not a reservation) it isn't intrusive at all! They can pick a day that is great for both of them (and the child) and go enjoy themselves! As the mother of a one year-old I would be extremely grateful for this gift! I think the mother of the groom is probably concerned that your gift will be better than hers!

The gift is from you not the grooms mother. She is maybe upset that she didn't think of it first.

That is a great idea! She'll be ecstatic! Ignore those who disagree- they probably wish they had thought of it themselves!

That's a FANTASTIC gift! The MIL is just pissed she didn't think of it! Believe me, when there's a little one running around a night off is a great time to relax, but also, they'll be flattered that you cared so much to focus on them as a couple rather than the people with the baby.

I think that is a wonderful, thoughtful gift. My fiance and I have a one year old and I would love to receive something like that for a wedding gift! Does your sister feel comfortable leaving her son for an overnight or two? That would be the only problem, I know some moms don't like to be away from their kids overnight. If not, then I think it is a wonderful gift, just make sure the gift certificate doesn't expire too soon as they will need time to plan for it. I don't know what the groom's mother's problem is, maybe she's just old fashioned.
