|

| I'm 14 years old. Christmas is December 25 and my birth is Jan 25. Because my birthday is so close to Christmas, I told my dad to give me a laptop as a Christmas/birthday gift. Do you think that it's kind of expensive to give me a laptop for my birthday even though it's combined as my christmas gift from him as well?? Knowing my dad, it'll be the cheapest laptop he can find. Can you do me a favor and list some laptops of good quality, yet cheap. And don't forget to state your opinion whether you think that I'm getting over or my parents are getting over with this combined christmas/birthday gift. Just so you know, I'd be receiving my laptop on my birthday instead of Christmas, which gives my parents more than enough time to have it. Thank you!!My laptop would be mainly used for downloading music and movies. |

Tell your dad/parents to go to a reputable computer store and ask to speak to someone who is knowledgable on laptops. You will have to tell them what you need the laptop to do so they can explain that to a sales asistant. They will tell the assistant how much they have to spend and he/she will show them some alternatives. Once they have done that in 3 or 4 stores, they will have a great idea about the laptop to buy you. They then can go on the Internet and save themselves up to 10%.All manufacturers have good and bad models. A sales assistant who deals with them everyday will know the best (and worst).Doing what I said, will enable your parents to get the best for the money they want to spend on your birthday/Christmas present :)Good luck. |

| For the purpose of basic browsing and downloading I'd say you don't need a middle or high end laptop, so your dad could just easily buy you a cheap machine and it would do just what you'd expect it to do.So no worries there about your parents being burdened.Just make sure you get it from a respectable vendor, so you won't be tricked into getting a laptop that is more that you'd require, thus spending more money.I think the likes of Dell, Lenovo and Acer has a few low-end model that would suit you. Any of them, any model would do. It's just a matter of which model you'd like best, appearance wise. |
