My brother is going on vacation to Cuba. He has heard that it is common for tourists to give gifts to the locals.Recently, he has found some old baseball cards (from the 90s) and was wondering if giving these to the kids (or parents to give to their kids) there would be a good idea.

I've visited Cuba eight times and it's just my opinion but I think it would be better to take useful items such as used but not abused clothing, running shoes etc. Baseball cards aren't of much use.

The value of such cards is the understanding of the origins.Last time I went to Cuba, to a small town, I took a soccer ball for the local kids (the dog had got the last one).If your brother is Canadian, and would like to do something really valuable for Cubans, have a look here:It's an organisation that sends medications to Cuba couriered by tourists. Many medications cannot be bought because they are blocked by the USA. For example, someone who needed an anti nauseant after cancer surgery got it from the generosity of foreigners.
