One of my friends has often given hand-made gifts. Over the years she's done truffles, soaps, tiny teddy bears, candles and candle holders, bead-work, jewellery... she's very crafty and artistic. She even makes her own cards and the gift boxes everything comes in!

Baked goods and candy made in your own kitchen. if you aren't a kitchen buff then you can make ornaments using everyday items you have around the house. If you are giving a personal gift to someone close to you and you have any pictures that they would love to see and have, make a homemade border and then use that to frame the picture and give those as gifts. Anything homemade is cherished because it comes from the heart and not from the pocket book. It is better to give something made verus spending money on items anyone can buy.

I always make an assortment of treats and candy and give to my neighbors, for some family i try and find old photos and put in frames, sometimes you can find neat beads and stones at art stores and make necklaces and other jewelry...

Nothing like home made cookies for friends you don't usually buy gifts for. There's something special about a Christmas cookie and it shows you cared to take the time to think about them.
