I just learned that my boss gives a Christmas bonus (probably $100) every year. This is great except, should I give something in return?? I am on a very tight budget, and he owns 7 different businesses. I don't want to look ungrateful. like a tightwad. or just plain silly, because I could probably not give him anything he could possibly want ore use. Home baked goods are out, I have brought in cakes, cookies, etc. and He has not touched them. Would I be better off to swallow my pride, and just graciously accept his gift, thank him, and let it go???

Are your other co-workers giving gifts? you can always send a poinsettia in the middle of the month...they are a nice gift to help decorate any home or office...

If he gives the bonus to everyone, and no one else gives him a gift, I wouldn't bother. You'd look like a total brownoser.

You are not swallowing your pride by accepting a xmas bonus from a boss. He does not HAVE to give you anything so if he does then that is great. Accept it with a smile - you must deserve it or he wouldn't do it!And no, I don't think any boss expects a gift from their employee, prob make him feel uncomfortable if anything. If there are a few of you why don't you do a secret santa or joke ($5-$10 limit) if you all feel you want to do something, & include him in that. He may get a laugh out of that. Go with your gut, you work with him & must have some idea of his personality.Merry Xmas!

If it's a bonus, it's not a gift. If you are on a tight budget, accept the bonus with gratitude and don't think any more about it.
