My grandmother is going to get my mom, step father, and young siblings out of the house for the day (Well, about 4 hours)My fiance, my other grandma, my best friend, and I will be cleaning the ENTIRE house for my mom. I want to tackle everything from daily household chores (Beds, dishes, laundry) to big stuff like dusting walls and celing fans. What things do you think are important to clean during this cleaning party? And how should I assign people jobs.We have a beautiful home, however the living room has been smothered in childrens toys for 8 years (since my brother was born). Now I have 3 siblings (ages 6, 7, and who leave toys all over the place! I am going to be buying a chest (sourt of like a toy chest, but something that will look nice in our home) for each child. If the toy does not fit in the toy chest, it needs to go in their bedroom or the playroom. (We have a HUGE playroom FULL of toys - 40x40sq ft, yet the toys all end up in the living room. The reason that I am doing this is because my mom has so much stuff! I can not think of a materialistic item that she needs or wants! My step father owns his own business and they are very well off! I am only 20 and do not make much money - so I can not afford the things that they DONT already have.My mom is a stay at home mom. She spends her days cleaning, picking up after my siblings, cooking, and running my step fathers business. She hardly ever gets time for her self - and many of the things that i will be cleaning are "projects" that shes been talking about getting done. Thanks for your help! Any tips are welcome! My mom once hired one of my friends to help her clean the house twice a week.(I work full time and go to college full time - I do what I can to help. My friend had been taking a semester off of school at this time and her family really needed the extra money) Shes not very particular as long as the job is done - and she is always very happy about help. I know that this is something that my mom will really like |

| Are you sure your mother would appreciate this gift? I know some people who would be insulted because you are implying that they are not clean enough. Also, some people are very picky about how things are cleaned and put away. Anyway, I know your intentions are good, but think hard about giving this as a gift. If you want to give a non-material gift, you could always make a donation to charity in her name, write her a poem, make her a collage of family pictures, or somethign like that. |

| Mom here... This type of cleaning can't be done by 4 people in 4 hours. Why not give her bedroom a really good cleaning? Start by stripping the bed. Take down the curtains, wash the windows and frames. Vacumm the lampshades, and wash the lamps. dust the walls. clean the ceiling fan, dust and wash the woodwork, polish the furniture, remake the bed with fresh linen, vacumm the floor. If you want to give her a gift to last longer, help her to keep up with the laundry or go ahead and do what you want with the toys. Take one day that you are off, and super clean the kitchen. |

| I agree with concentrating on building an organized area for the toys to go... we have those plastic file cabinets with drawers and we have each drawer labeled, 'paper', 'crayons', 'markers', 'puzzles', 'paints'... etc... it really helps out with all that little stuff that tends to get all over the place. Would she be interested in an organizational website like flylady? That site really helped me get my house in shape and KEEP it in shape. That would be a gift that could keep on giving, especially if she can pick up where you left off... Goodluck! |
