Is a push gift given 1) before labor 2) right after labor 3) mother's day following labor? If you've received a push gift, when did you get it? Is there a standard time? My wife hinted to me (not so subtlety) that she would like one and I don't want to dissapoint her since she's really been through a lot this year.

Tradition in England says that men buy women an elegant ring on this occasion. In India, it calls for gold jewelry to be given. In the U.S. many men know they're supposed to give her something but often miss the mark completely.push gifts are keepsakes that show the man's gratitude for her delivery of the ultimate gift - their baby. While there isn't a suggested price range for these gifts, the thought behind it definitely counts.

My husband always gave me one the day after the birth. I received a necklace for #1, a pair of diamond earrings for #2 and a new watch for #3.

The link explains the practice. I had never heard of it either. I would suggest following the advice given by the etiquette expert quoted in the article:{{Etiquette expert Pamela Holland said that unlike other gift-giving situations, this one shouldn't have set guidelines."The standard is that there is no standard," she said. "It does make sense to have etiquette around wedding or baby shower gifts because you're inviting other people into it. But this is far too intimate to have a rule."}}I think this should be a true gesture of love and respect for your wife, and definitely NOT something that you feel coerced into doing. My husband brought me an orchid while I was in hospital with my LO. Most of the other mothers had bouquets of flowers, but my orchid lasted longer and is just starting to flower again this year! I'm English, and none of the mums that I know received a ring or any expensive jewellery. Flowers is about it! Usually at the hospital, after the birth.

I would think a push gift should be received while in the hospital after the birth of the child. If you do it before the birth, then the idea that it's a push gift (a gift for pushing the baby out) is lost because the push has not yet happened. Waiting until Mother's Day seems like too long, and it just a Mother's Day gift at that point. You could also have it waiting for her at home when she is at home. It's really up to you, you should know the mother of your child well enough to know when the gift would be most appreciated (at the hospital where she can show it off, or at home where she can enjoy it all to herself!)

Allow your wife to rest right after labor. Give her the push gift when she wakes from her first nap after giving birth.BTW... my hubby bought me flowers while I was in the hospital and I thought that was the perfect gift for the occasion.
