When I had my wisdom teeth pulled all I wanted was chicken broth bc it's the only thing that doesn't taste horrible coming back up...Pudding is good, Otter pops are good too.. Just remember he cannot suck on anything afterwards so no straws.Just be there for him bring lots of good movies bc he's probably not going to be into eating too much.

Stay away from things with small seeds that can get lodged in the sockets i.e., raspberry yogurt. Really anything cool and soft is good. Anything hot will bring blood to the area (increase swelling) and may dissolve the blood clot. Pudding, ice cream, jello, yogurt, and applesauce are all good. He can eat things like mashed potatoes, etc. if they are served warm not hot. Also maybe an ice pack. This will help reduce the swelling.

I just got mine pulled and what was a life saver for me was macaroni and cheese. It was soft and mushy, so it was considered "safe" by my doctor. [he recommended it] Also, my tongue was numb afterwards, so I couldn't really taste the ice-cream... but that might be just me. XDI also loved soup. Potato was one of my faves... he might not be able to eat soup or pasta for a couple of days [i think mine's healing pretty quickly] but when he can, I'm sure he'll love them. ^^Good luck! Oh, and make sure he takes smaller bites, especially earlier on...
