I packed a suitcase empty on a trip from Texas to NY for my baby shower with the sole purpose of bringing my gifts back in it... I've never lost/misplaced a suitcase on a flight, but I'm nervous about this one!! I have a connecting flight also, so the case would have to make it safely onto both planes. My mother is concerned that it will just get flat out stolen by an airport employee. Everything in the case will be new, in boxes, with tags. Would you advise against this??

I would take my chance with this one. Being a victim of stolen or lost lugguage is so low a percentage that the extra effort to have this stuff arrive by UPS or whoever else would cause more stress then risking the loss of luggage on your flight.

Is it risky? Yeah, kinda. But I send my Christmas things home this way all the time. I travel a lot and don't ever have a problem. But I know of others that do.If you do decide to take everything back this way:Put a TSA lock on it, so you'll know if TSA opened the lock.Take as much as you can out of boxes.Split the stuff into more than one suitcase with your clothes.Check with the airline about adding excess valuation insurance. It isn't expensive (a couple of dollars per $100 in valuation). Call ahead to make sure it's available, but you purchase it at check in from the airline check in agent.

maybe you can but all of the gifts in a box and mail it home , in the long run it maybe cheaper than having to but new things and also less stressful for you because you would have to tell each person who gave you gifts what happened and they will disappointed.
